Innovia Films has developed its first top-coated BOPP label films that are food contact compliant under European Union (EU) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations – UltraFoil CFA (clear) and WFA (white).
UltraFoil CFA and WFA comply with the applicable legislations for most applications involving direct contact with food across most food types. The compliance also covers a broad range of food use conditions such as ambient temperature filling and storage, chilled use, frozen conditions and warm fill.
“The pressure sensitive label value chain is now very much under the spotlight, with retailers, brand-owners and consumers expecting labels to meet the same regulations as traditional food packaging," explains Alasdair McEwen, product manager, Labels for Innovia Films. "Until recently, top-coated filmic labelstock materials did not have to meet global regulations for food contact compliance. Innovia Films is proud to say that its UltraFoil CFA and WFA top-coated label films are now food contact compliant."
These films are designed to give converters a surface allowing cold-foiling performance and fine tone and vignette printing, without the need to slow down their presses.
UltraFoil films maximize the aesthetics of foiled areas of the label giving brand owners’ shelf impact for their products and additional options regarding imagery and branding, without adversely affecting the overall cost of the final printed label.
Converters are able to use a top-coated BOPP label film, with all the benefits that UltraFoil CFA and WFA provide, safe in the knowledge that the films also meet their regulatory needs.
“With Innovia Films’ renowned worldwide expertise in the fields of labels and regulatory aspects, it is exciting to be able to offer the market high performance, top-coated label facestock films that are food contact compliant," adds McEwen. "UltraFoil CFA and WFA are the first in a range of coated label films from Innovia offering not only superb print and foiling performance, but also satisfying regulatory demands. We are exceeding the needs and wants of our customers and continually strive to bring new and innovative label films to the market.”
